St. John Ambulance in Delhi is a social humanitarian, voluntary and uniformed organization engaged in variety of relief and charitable services to mitigate the sufferings of people, be it sickness or injuries caused by disasters irrespective of any caste, creed, colour, race, religion or political affiliations. The Brigade Volunteers are known for their “Selfless Services” anf for their “Service to Mankind”.
St. John Ambulance’s Emblems and badges are duly approved under the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper use) Act. 1950. This organization was approved under the St. John Ambulance (India) Tranfer of Funds Act 1956 (Act 21 of 1956). It also functions under section 9 of the Indian Red Cross Society Act of 1920 for Ambulance and Nursing work and for providing services in catastrophic situations with the rider that the order of St. John Ambulance shall continue to perform its work; namely the instruction of divisions for public duty. The organization is also approved under sub section 80 G (5) (vi) and under sub clause 923c0 of Section 10 of the Income Tax Act 1961 as also under Foreign contribution (Regulation) Act, 1976. The First – Aid Training Course is approved under Motor Vehicles Control Act.
In Delhi the first Delhi Ambulance Division was formed on 1st November, 1935, the sanction of which was received from Lahor. Delhi Brigade District (State Unit) was initiated in 1938 and finally granted sanction in the end of the year 1939 with one Ambulance, One Nursing and One Cadet Ambulance, 2 Cadet Nursing Divisions and 67 Brigade Personnel under the charge the Col. R.S. Candy CIE, IMS as its Assistant Commissioner.
St. John Ambulance in Delhi is a State federation of State Level Brigade and Association units with over 4000 Brigade Divisions/Corps, 6000 volunteers, about 100 registered Lecturers, Specialists, Members Centers at State and District level including its training centers and First-Aid Posts. Neither the State nor District Centers or Corps. Or Divisions or members alone constitute the organization but it is their collectivity interwoven fabric that forms the St. John Ambulance in Delhi. They inspire, encourage and initiate at all times such humanitarian services, as are enshrined in its scope so that human sufferings are alleviated or minimized, if not prevented.
